You & Your Brain Waves

Often when people ask, "What is Alpha?", they are really asking, "What is Alpha good for?", and "What does Alpha mean to me?" Answering the first question leads into the other two.
What is Alpha? It is one of four basic brain waves [Delta, Theta, Alpha, and Beta], which make up the EEG, which is short for electroencephalogram. These are all oscillating electrical voltages in the brain, but they are very tiny voltages, just a few millionths of a volt. The Alpha waves oscillate about 10 time per second, and the range is 8-13 cycles per second. The brain waves called "Alpha" were the first to be discovered (around 1908, by an Austrian Psychiatrist named Hans Berger). That is why they are called "Alpha", they were first. Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet, like our "a".

Many hundreds of scientists have spent a lot of time studying these basic brain waves of the EEG, so there is a lot of basic knowledge about what Alpha is and what makes it appear and disappear in our brains. Yes, Alpha appears and disappears. It is not always present. For example, in deep sleep there is no Alpha, and if someone is very highly aroused as in fear or anger, again there is virtually no Alpha.

Delta is seen only in the deepest stages of sleep (Stages 3 and 4). Theta is seen in light sleep and drowsiness (sleep stages 1 and 2). Alpha is seen in wakefulness where there is a relaxed and effortless alertness. Beta is seen in highly stressful situations, and where there is difficult mental concentration and focus.

Delta waves are the slowest oscillating waves (0-4 cycles per second). Theta waves oscillate somewhat faster (4-7 cycles per second). Alpha waves oscillate 8-13 times per second. Beta waves oscillate still faster (13-40 cycles per second). There are many other kinds of electrical activity in the brain, especially the short-lived evoked potentials that occur when the brain responds to sensory input (like a sound, or a touch, or a flash of light). However, the four basic EEG waves of Delta, Theta, Alpha, and Beta constitute the standard lineup of EEG activity.

The foregoing discussion makes the point that each of the four basic EEG waves is linked to a different state of consciousness. Each of the four types of waves is good for something different. However, we can get into trouble if we can not turn on the type of brain wave needed for the task at hand. For example, if we can not turn on Theta and Delta waves, we will suffer from insomnia, among other things. On the other hand, people who can turn on the ideal brain waves to deal with each and every situation are considered gifted.

One useful metaphor compares the four basic brain waves (Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta) with the four gears on a car. Delta (the slowest wave) is first gear. Theta is second gear. Alpha is third gear. Beta is fourth gear. No one gear is best for every driving situation, and no one brain wave is best for all of the challenges of life. We get into trouble if one of the gears on our car goes out, or if we forget to use some of the gears. For example if we drive our car starting in first gear, and then shifting directly into fourth gear (skipping second and third), we will have low gas mileage and high repair bills. The same is true of our brains. Sadly, many people often skip their second and third brain gears (Theta and Alpha). The consequences of driving our brains in this manner are low productivity and high medical bills. How does this happen?

The way this occurs in everyday life can be illustrated by an example. People often wake up suddenly out of a deep sleep (Delta) with an alarm. Then they immediately feel stress and anxiety (Beta) about being late or being under time pressure. After insufficient sleep they pour caffeine down their throats to force themselves into (Beta) wakefulness, and the caffeine suppresses Theta and Alpha, while promoting Beta. All day they work under stress, pressure, and time urgency (Beta, Beta, and more Beta), until at night, they fall exhausted into deep sleep (Delta), having spent too little time unwinding, relaxing, and drowsing (which would have given them a bit more Alpha and Theta). Thus many people shift their brains suddenly and forcefully from Delta to Beta, and then back to Delta.

Alpha production is an innate skill of our brains, but one consequence of the modern stressful lifestyle is that we forget how to produce Theta and Alpha brain waves. Then we easily fall victim to anxiety and stress-related diseases. Anxiety and stress measurably reduce the strength of our immune systems. People who have more Alpha brain waves have less anxiety. Thus having more Alpha waves could mean less anxiety and, correspondingly, stronger immune systems, and this is good for everyone.

Creativity is another activity for which Alpha is helpful. Scientists have shown that highly creative people have different brain waves from normal and non-creative people. In order to have a creative inspiration, your brain needs to be able to generate a big burst of Alpha, mostly on the left side of the brain. The brains of creative people can generate these big Alpha bursts, and do so when they are faced with problems to solve. Normal and non-creative people do not produce Alpha increases when they are faced with problems, and so they can not come up with creative ideas and solutions. Any time you have an insight or an inspiration, you know your brain just produced more Alpha waves than usual. Increased creativity is helpful for everyone.

Peak performance is another activity for which Alpha is helpful. Recently sports scientists have shown that increases of Alpha brain waves (often in the left side of the brain) precede peak performance. One key difference between novice and elite athletes is in their brain waves. Just before his best free throws, an elite basketball player will produce a burst of Alpha on the left side of their brain. Just before their best strokes, elite golfers will produce a burst of Alpha in their left brain. Just before their best shots, elite marksmen and archers will produce a burst of Alpha in their left brains. Novice and intermediate athletes do not show this Alpha pattern. However, one study of archers training over many weeks, showed that as they improved their performance, they gradually increased the amount of left brain Alpha which occurred just before their best shots. The Alpha brain waves seemed to be essential for peak performance and were increased, albeit slowly, by the archery training.

What does Alpha mean to me? If you want to feel less stress and anxiety, you should increase the amount of your Alpha waves. This may also improve the strength of your immune systems, since stress weakens the immune systems. If you want to be more creative, you should learn how to increase the amount of your Alpha waves. If you want to have more peak performance in athletic activity, and in other areas of your life, you should learn how to increase the amount of your Alpha waves. Some people are born healthy and mellow and gifted with creativity and athletic prowess. But what if you are not so lucky?

So how does one increase Alpha brains wave naturally. In the area of supplements, an amino acid from Green tea called L-Theanine increases Alpha brain waves naturally.
L-Theanine is useful for:
Inducing relaxation
Lowering Stress
Reducing anxiety levels
Decreasing hypertension
Increasing mental acuity
Improving learning ability and performance
Increase concentration
Lowering blood pressure

L-Theanine takes effect within 30 minutes after ingestion and there are no known cautions or drug interactions.

Stress and anxiety are debilitating conditions that can shorten life span while lessening performance, well being and the enjoyment of life. Stress can impair the ability to perform mentally. It may result in reactions to situations that cause enhanced frustration, hostility or even injury. Stress slowly destroys the immune system, lowering resistance to disease and thus allowing degenerative and opportunistic diseases to occur. Stress causes depression. The entire population is subjected to stress. In a 1998 survey, nearly 65% of the adult population indicated that they were under great stress. More than 23 million Americans suffer from anxiety illness.
L-Theanine is a unique free form amino acid found only in the tea plant and in the mushrooms Xerocomus badius and certain species of genus Camellia, C. japonica and C. sasanqua. L-Theanine is a relaxant that increases alpha-waves producing mental and physical relaxation decreasing stress and anxiety, without inducing drowsiness. Based on the results of clinical studies, it has been established that L-Theanine is effective in single dosages in the range of 50-200mg. It is suggested that subjects with higher levels of anxiety take a dose at the higher end of the effective range (100-200mg) for best results.

Biologically Active – In addition to relaxation, research suggests that L-Theanine may have application in:
Controlling high blood pressure
Improving learning performance
Heightening mental acuity – neurotransmitter
Promotes concentration
Acting antagonistically against the paralysis induced by caffeine
Supporting the immune system
Lowering blood pressure
Increases blood dopamine levels among other positive benefits with no known downside

Documented Safety
L-Theanine
is considered to be safe based on its historical use as a component of green tea on favorable toxicology studies. Green tea is the most consumed beverage worldwide after water, and has been consumed for thousands of years by billions of people. It is estimated that a heavy green tea drinker (6-8 cups daily) will consume between 200-400mg of L-Theanine daily.

What if your alpha waves are too high? The herb Kava Kava can help reduce alpha brain waves. Alpha allows us to be calm and alert, but will not allow us to fall asleep. Kava Kava, a South Pacific herb can reduce alpha waves and allow us to fall asleep.

For a restful sleep it is important that your serotonin level (neurotransmitter) is as high as possible. Serotonin increases a feeling of well-being, which helps to slow down and to initiate a calm peaceful sleep. Directly related to the production of serotonin is the production of melatonin, a hormone which is known for its sleep-inducing effect. Serotonin and melatonin use the same building blocks: L-Tryptophan. Basically everything that we have discussed, and will be discussing relating to feeling good, is applicable to helping you improve your sleep cycle as well.

Who needs increased alpha waves? We all do. We would all be able to tolerate the stress in this world more effectively. Adults could be more forgiving and friendlier. Children with ADD and ADHD can be better students and have better behavior with increased alpha brain waves. In reality, we live in a Beta brain world full anxiety and stress. We need to be Alpha people.

What is Kinesiology and how can it help you?

Kinesiology is a method of maintaining health by ensuring that all the muscles of the body are functioning correctly. It is believed that each of the muscles is connected with a specific part of the body such as the digestive system, circulation of the blood and specific organs. If a muscle is not working correctly this will cause a problem in its related part of thebody.

Kinesiology originated in 1964 and was developed by an American chiropractor called George Goodheart. Whilst treating a patient for a severe pain in the leg he found that massaging a particular muscle in the upper leg relieved the pain and at the same time strengthened the muscle. However when he used the same method on different muscles the results were not the same. Previous research done by an osteopath called Dr Chapman found that there were certain 'pressure points' in the body that were connected with particular muscles. Chapman found which point was connected to each particular muscle and realised that when he had massaged the patients upper leg muscle, the pain had decreased. The pressure point for that leg muscle was the only one that was situated above the actual muscle. All the other points were not close to the part of the body with which they were connected.

In the 1930's an osteopath called Terence Bennett claimed that were similar pressure points located on the skull. If light pressure was applied to these pressure points the flow of blood to the related organs could be assisted. George Goodheart tested this claim and found that if finger tip pressure was only applied for a few seconds the strength of a particular muscle was improved. He was able to locate sixteen points on the head, back of the knee and on the breastbone that were all linked to groups of important muscles. To further his studies Goodheart applied himself to acupuncture, which is a form of healing that also makes use of certain points on the body but that run along paths known as meridians. He came to the conclusion that these meridians could be used for both muscles and organs.

The paths used in kinesiology are exactly the same as the paths used for acupuncture. A kinesiologist will examine a patient and attempt to discover if there is any physical disorder, lack of energy or bad nutrition that is causing problems. When the problem areas have been located, a light massage will be applied to the relevant pressure points (usually not close to the associated muscles). In kinesiology it is maintained that the use of pressure points works because the flow of blood to the muscles is stimulated. This will ensure that a supply of lymph is generated as well; lymph is a watery fluid that takes toxins away from the tissues.

As with acupuncture it is believed that that there is an unseen flow of energy running through the body. When this flow of energy is disrupted due to a person being ill or suffering from stress, the body will become weak because insufficient energy is being produced. Testing the strength of the muscles will provide information on the flow of energy and help in assessing the general health of the patient. It is claimed that by finding any imbalance and correcting it, kinesiology can be used as a preventative therapy. If a person is feeling tired all the time it is believed that this condition is made worse by the the slow flow of internal body fluids such as the circulation of blood. Kinesiologists are able to teat this problem by stimulating the flow of lymph and blood by massaging the pressure points.

It is claimed that kinesiology can be of benefit to those people who suffer from phobias or irrational fears. An example of this is the recommendation that the bone beneath the eye, level with the pupil, is softly tapped. Neck and back pain can be treated without any need for manipulation of joints. Massaging of the muscle that is located in the inner thigh can be of benefit for muscles that are weak as they are a reason for a painful back.

Kinesiology is is also used by practitioners of homoeopathy, herbalism and osteopathy. Therefore if there is a problem that is connected to ligaments, muscles or bones, it may well be advisable to contact a osteopath or chiropractor who is also qualified in kinesiology. If the problem is of a emotional or mental nature, then it may be advisable to contact a psychotherapist or counsellor who is also practises kinesiology.

Natural Health A Preferred Lifestyle

It is ironic that with technology improving in practically every sector, including medicine, more and more people are leaning towards nature and her treatments. Natural health approaches are often seen in various methods like foot reflexology, massage treatments, yoga, acupuncture, meditation, ayurveda and even aromatherapy. Natural approaches to health ailments are gaining in popularityas people take their personal health more seriously.

Such concerns cause them to revert back to proven age-old remedies, preferring those to the newer solutions. Natural health practices include the principle of consuming only organic foods, cleansing the physical body with nature-based products like herbs, maintaining a balanced lifestyle(Everything In Moderation) and channeling the energies through meditation and yoga.

One of the most common features of natural health remedies is the presence of natural products. This is especially obvious anything to be consumed as this approach to medicine believes that physical ailments are a manifestation of unclean or unnatural food and drink ingested into the body. Such natural products in foods can be seen in:

Herbal teas.
Very prominent in natural health practices, these teas range from normal herbal tea to flavored ones like chamomile, lavender, cinnamon, ginger and even spiced. Different teas are consumed for different reasons. Traditional herbal teas are effective for cleansing the body of impurities and recommended to be consumed on a regular basis for regular detoxification.-

Natural ingredients.
Olive oil is a well-known natural health complement to regular food fare, as are fruits, oats, sesame seeds, walnuts, flax seeds and sunflower seeds.

Energy foods.
Most physical discomfort is said to be caused by a loss or imbalance of the body energies and as such, need to be replenished. Common energy foods are citrus fruits rich in Vitamin C, beans, trail mix consisting your favorite nuts and seeds, dark honey and berry juice like grape, blueberry and pomegranate. Going vegetarian is another way of opting for a naturally healthy lifestyle.

This is a little drastic for most so even the most loyal natural health practitioner will opt for the occasional detoxification process. This is where a controlled fast of some kind will play its part. Some fasts maintain that water becomes the bodies main staple with no foods being consumed within a time period. Other equally effective fasts require a selective food diet like fruits and vegetables or proteins.

Another prominent feature of this particular approach to medicine is its holistic remedies. All-natural solutions like Ayurveda oils for curing allergies, aromatherapy for overcoming insomnia and drinking specific teas to rid the body of toxins are some of the most common ways of practicing natural health medicine. These are the easiest to practice for the novice natural health practitioner and can sometimes be observed even in the lifestyles of those not subscribing to this particular way of life.

Eating specific herbs are also said to be beneficial for health. Traditional Ayurvedic medicine, in particular, believes that herbs relieve symptoms and help expedite healing in the most natural way. Some herbs taken on a regular basis are said to boost the body immune system. Ginseng is a good example of a traditional tree root that has become a universally accepted health supplement.

One more aggressive and less practiced holistic remedy is acupuncture. Believed to be able to rid the body of toxins and unwanted chi (also known as energies), acupuncture should only be done by an expert and experienced acupuncturist. This act involves the insertion of very fine needles into strategic points on the body to channel the energies to the right places, thus relieving pain in affected parts. While once only associated with traditional Chinese medicine, it is now an accepted complementary medicine.

Healing the body is just one part of practicing natural health medicine effectively. Most physical diseases and discomforts are believed to originate in the subconscious. This will require a cleansing and healing of the mind as well. Natural health medicine heals the mind through a string of meditative sessions, where one is required to be still and listen and communicate with the body. While the benefits of meditation still needs to be quantified scientifically, it is universally accepted as one of the complementary approaches to physical and emotional healing.

What Are Herbal Medicines And How They Optimize Your Health?

Herbal medicine is considered to be one of the oldest forms of medicine to date. Throughout the history of many different cultures, this type of medicine has been practiced and deemed as an appropriate means of optimizing the overall health of individuals. One of the main reasons that so many people rely on herb based medicine is because of the fact that this form of treatment is not often related to dangerous side effects and complications. However, chemical based medications account for many different side effects and complications.

Herbs are derived from plants that are considered to be safe on the most part. However, it is important to understand that many plants have been found to have a small portion of toxicity. This means, as with any type of medicine and/or treatment, it is important to be alert to the fact that even though certain remedies are considered to be safe there is the potential for side effects and that natural herbs should never be underestimated when it comes to this possibility.

However, way more chemical based medications have been associated with these dangers than natural herbs have. If you elect to indulge in herbal medications for a treatment or to simply optimize your health, it is best to discuss this with a licensed medical doctor. The doctor will be able to provide insight on whether or not this is a good idea for you. The professional will evaluate your medical history, and any reactions that you have had with standard medicine to determine if there is cause to be concerned.

While many doctors will insist that natural remedies are not the route to take with many, there are quite a few out there that will support the use of this type of medicine. If you elect to take herbs, it is important that you understand that many of these substances have the potential to interact with other medications. It is also important to understand that may herbs will counteract with other herbs as well. If you are taking any type of medication for any issue, or any other type of herbal remedy, it is absolutely necessary to ensure that the one that you desire to take does not and will not interfere with the other medications and treatments that you are taking. If they do, you may become subject to potentially dangerous side effects.

A lot of research has been conducted when it comes to herbs. Many herbs have been found effective for certain conditions while other herbs have been considered inappropriate for the same conditions. If you want to partake in a natural treatment, it is important that you completely research the condition that you are attempting to treat and the herb that you are considering. There are many myths surrounding herbs and the treatment of certain conditions, and it is important that you take the time and make the effort to determine the difference between myth and reality. If you fail to do this, you may only cause more problems for yourself than you anticipated.

Herb based medicine is an old area of study when it comes to medicine, this is true. However, scientists and individuals who study herbs are discovering new things about medicine that is derived from plants on a daily basis. New advantages and disadvantages are being discovered almost daily. It is absolutely essential that if you are interested in this type of medical treatment that you stay on top of the research and studies. This will allow you to have conclusive evidence as to which treatments are effective and which treatments are not effective.

Dealing With Arthritis And The Natural Treatments

There are many types of arthritis, there are over one hundred different types and in some cases there is swelling present, however in others there is no swelling. The word arthritis is derived from the Greek word arthron, which translates to the word joint, and itis, which means inflammation. Arthritis is also often thought of as a disease of the aged, this is a misconception as there are forms of arthritis that can affect humans of any age. Most people have heard of certain types of arthritis, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, or fibromyalgia as they tend to be the most common forms.

Rheumatoid arthritis is the most common form of arthritis and is an inflammatory type. This type of arthritis is an inflammation of the linings of joints and affects the hands and wrists as well as the ankles and feet as well as other joints like the knees, hips, elbows and shoulders. There can often be signs of redness, swelling, heat and pain with rheumatoid arthritis. When there is a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis it means that white blood cells including what are known as T cells and B cells, along with polymorphonuclear leukocytes, macrophages and certain lymphocytes are over active. This is what causes the inflammation. Rheumatoid arthritis is also an autoimmune disease, meaning the immune system is attacking other parts of the body. This type of arthritis can not only affects the joints, it also has the ability to affect internal organs like the lungs, heart and eyes.

Osteoarthritis is another common form of arthritis; the cause of it is the breakdown of cartilage, the material that protects the ends of the bones that may break off and cause pain or swelling. In many cases the cartilage, which is an elastic type of material, will completely erode allowing the bones to rub together. The erosion of cartilage can occur in any bone but this tends to affect the knees, hips, hands and spine. Cartilage is made up from two components, cells called chondrocytes and the matrix. The chondrocytes sit in the matrix and the matrix is made of collagen and proteoglycans. Prior to the development of osteoarthritis there is a chemical change in which there is a decrease in the amount of chondrcytes, along with proteoglycan and collagen. This leaves the cartilage to soften and crack. The cracks are called fibrillations and this is the cartilage that will erode over time. To add to this, are cells within the joint lining that begin to produce enzymes and cytokines that also help to destroy the cartilage and the joint. This type of arthritis is classified as a non-inflammatory arthritis meaning that it is not a form that causes swelling, which has been found to be incorrect. As Osteoarthritis develops in a joint the cartilage that acts as a shock absorber over time becomes thin and rough and the bone thickens. When thickening of the bones occurs it allows them to form bumps that are referred to as spurs, these spurs are called osteophytes. The joints can loose their shape; the muscles associated with them weaken from lack of use. This can cause the joint can stop working properly.

Osteoarthritis is usually diagnosed in people over age 45, however it can affect a person at any age. This type of arthritis progresses slowly and affects weight bearing joints as well as the hands and thumbs. Moving the joints affected by Osteoarthritis can be painful as well as stiff and it is also the most common joint disease. When it affects the knee joints it is not unusual to hear a grating sound when walking on stairs because of the cartilage that has thinned. Walking and other tasks can become difficult due to the pain associated with this type of arthritis. The diagnosis of Osteoarthritis is often done with the use of x-rays and these can show an enlargement of bone ends as well as narrowing of the joint space. Once a patient has been diagnosed with this specific type of arthritis there are traditional medications that can be prescribed.

There are also vitamins and minerals that can help to combat this condition, both before and after the diagnosis. It is well documented that when diagnosed it is recommended that foods rich in natural anti-inflammatory and joint supporting nutrients, along with antioxidants be a part of the diet. This includes Omega-3 fatty acids, which have been included in studies over two decades and have proved to be beneficial in the influence of cellular metabolic functions, reducing cytokines and supporting cell membrane structure.

Soybean and avocado oil has been proven in studies to promote the production of collagen while at the same time lowering the production of cytokines. This supplement was tried in a study that included 260 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee that ranged in age from 45 to 80 year of age. The study showed improvements in the patients that were given the soybean and avocado oil supplements over those who were given a placebo.

Another supplement that has proven beneficial is crucumin this is an element of turmeric it is also an anti-inflammatory.

Crucumin when study along with capsaicin that is comprised from red pepper was found to decrease cytokines.

One study that was done using powdered ginger with rheumatoid or osteoarthritis found that approximately 75 percent of the patients had a decrease in swelling and pain relief. Ginger was found to have properties to block pro-inflammatory mediators and suppresses prostaglandin production.

Nobiletin is a flavonoid that is a natural compound found in orange peel and is known for its ability to disrupt the progression of cytokines.

Nettle Leaf has long been known for its use in treating disease, and the American Indian used Nettle Leaf in the treatment of dropsy by using the extract of this plant. The botanical name of nettle leaf is Urticaceae and is derived from Latin and translated means to burn.

There are also other helpful natural supplements to aid in the relief of osteoarthritis, such as hyaluronic acid, glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate and green tea extract. These are some of the natural compounds that have been studied and have shown results in relieving the pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis and in some case rheumatoid arthritis

If you want to optimize your fitness and eliminate joint swelling and tenderness, constant pain and stiffness, or persistent exhaustion, there is proven help available. India's men and women have been reaping the powerful benefits of Ayurveda Medicine for the past 5,000 years

Taking A Look At A Full Body Detox Regimen

Our Environment
Studies show that since the 1940s approximately 87,000 synthetic new chemicals have been produced in the United States alone. At most about 3% of these chemicals have been tested for cancer-causing properties, and even fewer have been tested for hormone disrupting properties. Over 3,000 of these chemicals have been added to our food supply and more than 10,000 chemical solvents, emulsifiers, and preservatives are being used for food processing.
We ingest hundreds of pounds of food annually that are contaminated by these chemicals. In our lifetime through food we ingest, water we drink and bathe in, and air we breathe, each of us will consume 100 times the amount of pesticides, chemicals, life stock hormones, and preservatives than our grandparents did. This will inevitably disrupt the natural harmony and balance of our bodies.

In addition, much of today's foods are genetically modified. The term genetically modified means the genetic blueprints of living organisms such as plants, animals, and microorganisms are unnaturally altered or disrupted. The "hidden menu" of these unlabeled genetically engineered foods and food ingredients in the United States now includes soybeans, soy oil, corn, potatoes, squash, canola oil, cotton seed oil, papaya, tomatoes, and dairy products. Over 70 million acres of genetically engineered crops are presently under cultivation in the United States. Up to 500,000 dairy cows are being injected regularly with Monsanto's recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH). And genetically modified bacteria and fungi are used in the production of enzymes, vitamins, food additives, flavorings, and processing agents in thousands of foods on grocery shelves. According to the biotechnology industry, 100% of food in the United States will be genetically engineered within the next 5 to 10 years!Consuming these genetically modified foods presents a constant and unknown hazard to the very essence of our well being.

Your Detoxification System
A toxin is defined as any compound that has a detrimental effect on cell function or structure; some toxins cause minimal negative effects while others can be fatal. Toxins damage the body in an insidious and cumulative manner. The body naturally processes toxins through the liver, kidneys, and lower intestines. These organs must function optimally for toxins to be adequately removed from the body before they damage tissue. If your detoxification system becomes overtaxed, toxic metabolites (by-products of metabolism) gradually accumulate and wreak havoc on normal body processes. Since all of your organs and functions are intimately connected, when basic body processes breakdown, your entire body deteriorates.
For example, the human body is composed of about 60 trillion cells of various shapes and functions. Every cell and tissue in the body is nourished by nutrients in the blood stream which are supplied through the intestines. The digestive tract converts food into valuable nutrients which are subsequently absorbed by the body. During this process, the digestive system produces a mucous substance which is normally excreted together with other waste matter. However, diets rich in processed foods and poor in fiber prevent proper elimination of this substance. As small amounts accumulate along the walls of the digestive tract, sluggish bowel movement and constipation occurs.

As colon walls cake up and passages of the colon get narrower and narrower, the digestive process of toxin extraction from food and elimination from the body becomes ineffective leading to a toxic colon condition. Undigested fecal matter in the body is one of the leading causes of diseases. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the average American male aged 50 has between 5 and 22 pounds of compacted fecal matter stuck in his digestive system. The subsequent contamination of the intestines leads to toxins entering the blood, tissues, and organs, and contaminating them as well.

The largest internal organ in the body is the liver. The liver works by both filtering toxins directly and by altering toxins so that they can be removed during other stages of detoxification. The liver filters toxins from about one liter of blood every minute. Some of these toxins are endotoxins (produced in the body) and exotoxins (from outside the body). These wastes are eliminated by the kidneys or the colon. Other toxins, composed of compounds that are difficult for the liver to filter, must be broken down with enzymes so that they can be removed. A properly functioning liver is vital to your health.
Serious toxin overload of the liver can easily occur. Toxins released from the liver must leave the body through the colon and kidneys. If a person is constipated, the toxins are not eliminated and are instead reabsorbed back into the liver. This occurs while new exotoxins are continually introduced into the body through medication, pesticides, cigarette smoke, pollution, impurities in food, bacteria, and other problematic substances in the environment; and concurrently new endotoxins are created in the body due to stress and lack of exercise.

The resulting blood pollution puts tremendous strain on the kidneys which normally process 200 quarts of blood daily to sift out waste products to keep blood clean and chemically balanced. The road to disease is soon paved with an improperly functioning liver, gummed up excretory system, strained kidneys, and a slew of toxins that bind to enzymes at the cellular level and neutralize them causing cells to stop functioning properly.

This toxin buildup initially expresses itself through minor symptoms like sluggishness, headaches, and acne, but later leads to life-threatening ailments like cancer, organ failure, and hormonal imbalances which cause obesity and diabetes. A study by the Columbia University School of Public Health estimates that 95 percent of cancer is caused by diet and environmental toxicity. Most Americans have between 400 and 800 chemicals stored in their bodies typically in fat cells.

Resulting Health ProblemsDigestive clogging, liver overload, failing kidneys, and toxin buildup are known to cause the following health problems:

Western medicine relies on aggressive and costly prescription drugs and prohibitively-expensive surgery to deal with problems related to body toxicity. These methods generally address only the symptoms of toxicity and not the underlying causes. As soon as you stop using the drugs, the problems return! And these prescription drugs often result in unwanted and even dangerous side effects.

For example, migraines are frequently caused by toxin buildup in the body. Amytriptyline, Desipramine, and Doxepin are commonly prescribed to alleviate migraines. Their combined side-effects include blurred vision, confusion, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, faintness, fatigue, increased appetite, weakness, and weight gain. In this case, side-effects like constipation and increased appetite work to accelerate damage to the digestive track and promote further toxin buildup and worsening symptoms.

Another condition related to body toxicity is slow bowel movement. Laxatives are commonly prescribed for treatment. Magnesium Hydroxide is the most common active ingredient in laxatives. This chemical DOES NOT remove the buildup on the walls of the colon. It only liquefies the contents of your bowel to produce watery stools. Long-term usage is known to weaken intestinal muscles which serve as the digestive system's engine. Again this approach is counter-productive and worsens the condition it is meant to treat.

Ayurveda, the science of life, prevention, and longevity, is the oldest and most holistic and comprehensive medical system available. Ayurveda uses the inherent principles of nature to help maintain health in a person by keeping the individual's body, mind, and spirit in perfect equilibrium with nature.
India Herbs has a seasoned group of Ayurvedic doctors specialized in Kaya Chikitsa, one of the eight major specialties of Ayurveda that deals with Internal Medicine. It is the branch of Ayurveda that offers therapies for purification and detoxification. Kaya Chikitsa dwells deep into defining the root cause of a disease and prescribes the therapeutic use of various herbal medicines and holistic treatments for enhancing the capabilities and vigor of your body's detoxification system while strengthening the body and overall well-being.

Recommendations
You can cleanse your body and optimize your long-term health by:
1) Reversing Damage - Years of continual toxin ingestion have caused damage to your detoxification system. To help reverse this, Ayurtox releases hundreds of phytonutrients that act at the molecular level to remove metabolic waste and toxins from your body, stimulate and tone your gastrointestinal system, improve circulation, nourish muscle and connective tissues, prime vital organs like the liver and kidneys, strengthen your immune system, and soothe your nervous system to restore natural balance and harmony to your body.
2) Limiting Harmful Foods - Avoid processed and canned foods, dairy products (especially cheese), and junk foods which are full of toxins, low in nutritional value, and lack dietary fiber.
3) Eating Healthy Foods - Consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Regularly eat home-cooked meals (without MSG or artificial sweeteners). Raw and slightly steamed vegetables are best for vitamins and nutrients. Dried beans and other dried items are better for cooking than canned foods.
4) Drinking Purified Water - Use a reputable water filtration system to ensure the cleanest possible water is available for your household. Water coming from public water supplies will at the least contain contaminants from old piping and usually has bacteria.
5) Increasing Fluid Intake - Purified water and freshly squeezed juices help flush toxins from your body. If possible, consume only broths, pureed vegetables, water, and juices to treat your body to a liquid diet and reduce burden to your digestive system one day a week.
6) Drinking Herbal Teas - Teas made from Fenugreek, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Spearmint help promote urination and bowel movement and remove mucus along with trapped viruses and bacteria from the body.
7) Treating Constipation - Take natural laxatives like Psyllium to ensure regular bowel movements which help prevent toxins from building up in the digestive tract.
8) Undertaking Spa Therapy - Steam bath, sauna, and massage help loosen toxins and remove them from your body.
9) Seeking Relaxation - Strive to get 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night and find quiet time for at least 5 minutes of meditation daily. Allowing your body to recuperate and keeping your mind at ease helps balance your nervous system and minimize harmful hormones produced by stressful living.
10) Reducing Exposure to Toxins - Avoid using artificial air fresheners, switch to natural brands of toiletries (cosmetics, soaps, shampoos, toothpaste), and use natural cleaning products.
Results: The precise combination of ingredients in Ayurtox along with a mind-body focus precisely addresses your natural detoxification needs!

What Can A Woman Do To Increase Her Libido

It is natural throughout life for a woman to experience changes in their libido. It can be like a rollercoaster ride. One minute your up and can get enough. The next minute you are down. There are many influences that can affect the libido of a woman. It can be anything from a change in lifestyle to a certain medicine that has been prescribed. In tackling the issue of libido I have put together a list of the most universal reasons (and solutions) for a waning in a woman's libido; it maybe possible to correct the circumstances with a few simple lifestyle changes.

A Note of Introduction Libido/Sex Drive vs. Sexual Arousal
There's a large difference between sexual desire and physical arousal: Desire (or libido) refers to your interest in sex, while arousal relates to your body's physical response, such as vaginal lubrication or clitoral erection. There can be a relationship between a woman's libido and sexual arousal as those women with a greater libido often find it easier to get aroused. The opposite is also true with those women with a lower libido finding it much harder to get aroused. The whole idea then is to increase the sex drive and thus your body will respond by being aroused much easier. Below we list nine reasons that may lower sex drive and suggest ways that may help you boost you libido.

1. Situation and Lifestyle The older women get the more responsibilities that we have to handle. When we were younger most of us had higher sex drives that can take as huge fall when we get older. The time between work, kids, friendships, hobbies and homemaking doesn't leave much time for sex. Then when you find you have a little spare time often the last things you feel is sexual or in need of any sexual contact; women often just want to read a good book, watch some TV or catch up on a little sleep. It not that ladies don't want to have sex it has just some how become a low priority. Ladies must all remember that sex is a very important part of any adult relationship. It may mean you have to be a little practical and schedule sex into the calendar. This may sound a little funny but if that is the only way to make sure that you have a chance for lovemaking then it must be done. Assign one or two nights a week when you spend quality romantic time with your partner. It time to kick things up a notch: For example take turns bringing something new into the bedroom. such as sex toy, illustrated book, video or technique. The idea about scheduling tie together is so that you're making a commitment and also allows you to get a mind set of what is going to happen. It gives you mind and body time to prepare and will help find it helps you when sexual arousal enters the equation as you will be more ready for it then coming in cold.

2. Mindset - Anxiety, Stress and Fear Sex is the last ting on a woman's mind when she is stressed, anxious or has some fears. It could be work related, a relationship issue, family or money problems and they can really lower drastically a woman's libido. How can any girl feel sexy when she has to worry about mortgage repayments. Fear and anxiety associated with sex itself can also cause problems. In the modern world there are fears of STD's or of getting pregnant, they all can affect the libido and lower he chances of having a rewarding sexual experience. The way to conquer stress, fear and anxiety is to firstly ensure that the body is healthy. It is up to you to look after you body by eating right, drinking plenty of water, taking regular exercise or even practicing relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation. It may seem like hard work but if you are not doing it for your health then do it for your sex lives. The next step is to strengthen the mind by doing things you are good for you such as reading, doing a crossword, talking to friends, kids and your partner and writing in a journal. If you have a healthy body and mind you will become much more capable to deal with the problems in the bedroom. If you've tried these methods and still feel that anxiety and fear are detrimental your libido, it may be time to seek qualified help. If you are secure with the thought, attempt to talk to a sex therapist. Otherwise a psychologist, life coach or marriage counsellor as they can help you feel better and enjoy sex more.

3. Routine and Boredom It is easy to get stuck in a groove and familiarity can be a big libido killer. Many women's ideal is to be in a monogamous relationship but after 20 years it is perfectly normal to be bored or uninspired by your partner. By this time you have tried most things and have ruled out or forgotten about anything you haven't tried. This can also apply to couples who have been dating for less than six months as they too can get into a sexual rut after the first flush of puppy love has gone away. It can end up with you using the missionary position every time you get it on like on a Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night. It is fine but everyone needs a bit of variety and spontaneity in their lives. It is time now to get back to basics and to those sexual routes. Try to approach sex as a brand new experience and forget about everything that you like and don't like. Approach you partner and talk about what you want to try in bed. It might be that you just need to introduce something new to the bedroom. There are many ways to re-invigorate your sex life; buy a sex toy and use with your mate, watch sexy videos and try to recreate the scene, read or look through some illustrated sex guides. There maybe some initial embarrassment or unease with your new experiences together, but if you can keep an open mind you will soon find that your new found experiences lead to much more fun and satisfaction.

Many women for the reasons given above suffer from lower sex drive. It happens to most women at some point in their lives. It maybe time to truly look at your lifestyle and make some tough decisions. Sex is a very important part of your life and any problems must be addressed. It is time to analyse your life and make real and sufficient time to address your sexual needs. Then look at your routine and maybe spice things up with new and exciting appoaches agreed to by both you and your partner. It is time you took control of your life back. Approach sex like it is your very first time and try to capture that old feeling. It is with experimentation that sex can become fresh again. This will make it exciting and thus you will want to have sex again.

The Safety of Herbal Supplements

Organic herbal supplements and herbal medicines have been used for centuries in order to promote the general wellbeing and improved the health.More and more people are now turning to organics and natural supplements otherwise known as herbals. The rising popularity of herbal supplements has created a new fad if not a new health lifestyle. But before you join the bandwagon, here are some things you need to know about this mean and green dietary supplementing machine. What is the difference between a drug and a herbal supplement? Drugs - According to the definition set by food and drug administrations in different countries, drugs are chemicals that can prevent, prolong the life, treat other effects of a health condition, improve the quality of life, and/or cure ailments and diseases, or alter the function of any part or chemicals inside the body. These drugs have approved therapeutic claims. For example, paracetamol is a drug given to bring down the body temperature in fever. Ascorbic acid is indicated for the treatment of scurvy. Iron supplements are given to treat mild cases of anemia. Herbal Supplements - Herbal supplements are not classified as drugs but as dietary supplements. The main difference is that they do not have approved therapeutic claims unlike in the case of drugs. Moreover, dietary supplements could either contain vitamins, minerals, herbals, or amino acids, all aimed to add to or supplement the diet of an individual. They are not intended to be taken alone as a substitute to any food or medicine. Is there a growing concern with the use of herbal supplements? Yes. With the rising popularity of using and consuming anything herbal or organic is the proliferation of fake herbal supplements that threaten to endanger lives. If that is the case, then why are herbal supplements given drug administration approvals? One way of ensuring the safety of the people is to have all candidate drugs, food, drinks, and dietary supplements registered with the proper authority. Otherwise, they would pose more risk with these things being sold in the black market for a hefty sum. We could ensure the quality and safety of herbal supplements if they get proper classification with the food and drug administration. Moreover, people may be able to file the proper complaints in the event a worsening of health condition is proven to be linked to the use of a particular herbal supplement. Is using herbal supplements worth the risk? Yes. It cannot be discounted that many who have tried herbal supplements experienced an improvement in their health.Whether this is due to the herbals themselves or due to a placebo effect, as long as they do not worsen the condition of an individual, then using them is worth the risk. But of course, certain things must be considered before taking those herbal supplements: Your doctor knows best. First and foremost, consult your doctor before you decide to take any herbal supplements.Ask him/her if taking a particular herbal supplement is safe given your health condition. People with heart, liver, or kidney trouble or malfunction, are usually not advised to take these, or at the minimum is to take these herbals in minimum amounts. All substances pass through the liver and kidney to be processed and filtered respectively. Kava, which is used to relieve people from stress, has been pulled out from the Canadian, Singapore and German markets because it contains substances that cause liver damage. Certain herbals such as Ephedra used for losing weight, contains chemicals with heart-inducing effects that can increase heart rate, which in turn can exhaust the heart and cause heart attacks in several documented cases by the American Medical Association. Follow the directions for use. Never take more herbal supplements than what is directed by a certified medical doctor or as instructed on the bottle. Each individual reacts differently to the components of herbal supplements. While it is perfectly safe for one individual to take in a supplement of primrose oil capsules, another person may be allergic to it. So, do not even think about downing one bottle of It has no approved curative effect. No matter how the product pamphlet or the label of the bottle sounds about how it has been found to be helpful in certain health conditions, these herbal supplements are not therapeutic.

Lung Nutrition for Good Lung Health

Despite decrease in lung function as you age, recent studies by researchers have concluded that to slow down this decrease lung health, you need to continually to give yourself a good dose of,
Vitamin D
Vitamin C
Magnesium

The combination of these three nutrients was shown to maintain good lung capacity in people who took them compared with those who did not.

So where are going to get Vitamin D. I don’t recommend you get it from milk. Milk despite its commercial push, is mucus forming, high in protein which requires calcium to digest, and is acid forming. The sun is the best source of Vitamin D. It only required you to be out in the open and even in the shade for about ½ hour per day. You can also get vitamin D from cheese and butter, fish, rice dream, and almond milk.

Look at the label on other products and you will see many with natural vitamin D. I don’t like those products that fortified vitamins in them. The vitamins or minerals in food are balanced with other nutrients in a way that is good for your health.

If you are driving lower your window to get reflected sunlight. Sunlight coming through car windows is not true sunlight since some of the light colors get filtered out.

Both Vitamin D and Magnesium help the body absorb more Calcium. So if you want to take a Vitamin D supplement, look for one that has Magnesium and Calcium.

To really make sure your lungs stay strong as you age also take a good dose of vitamin C. Take from 1000mg to 2000mg. Eat citrus fruits and juices without sugar. Fruits of all kinds have vitamin C and you should be eating 3-4 fruits daily.
